Keep your pet happy and healthy!

Regular veterinary check-ups give your pet the best chance at a long, healthy life.

Health and Wellness Checks

Just like us, pets benefit from regular health check-ups.
Even if your dog or cat appears perfectly healthy, a routine vet visit can uncover issues you might not notice at home.
These visits aren’t just about vaccinations—they’re all about keeping your pet happy, comfortable, and thriving throughout life.

During a check-up, our vet will give your pet a full physical exam thoroughly checking your pet from nose to tail, looking for any unusual lumps, bumps, or other concerns. It’s also a great opportunity to discuss any changes you’ve noticed in your pet’s behaviour, appetite, or habits—helping to catch potential health issues early, before they become more serious.

Regular Check-ups are also a great time to get advice that’s tailored to your pet’s individual needs, that may include:
Age, Breed, Lifestyle and their Diet and Exercise needs.

What our vets check in the physical exam:

Heart and Lungs
Listening to your pets heart and lungs, to ensure healthy function and detect any abnormalities
Teeth and Gums
Examining your pets mouth and gums to identify any signs of dental disease including plaque, tartar or inflammation that may be causing discomfort.
Skin, Coat, Ears and Eyes
To examine for any signs of irritation, infection, or discomfort. Things like redness, discharge, or unusual odours can be early indicators of underlying issues.
Weight, Joints and Mobility
Assessing your dog’s movement, joints, and muscle condition, checking for signs of stiffness, pain, or reduced mobility. Weight and body condition are also evaluated, as excess weight can worsen joint issues.

Senior Pets Health Checks

Pets are generally considered senior around seven to eight years of age.
As they age, their bodies go through changes much faster than when they were younger—similar to a person reaching their 60s. Older pets are more prone to age-related conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, thyroid issues, vision or hearing loss, organ decline, and tumours.
These changes can occur gradually and often go unnoticed at first, regular health checks are especially important to help catch and manage issues early.

During your health check your vet might recommend additional tests tailored to your pets
individual health needs:
  • Blood Pressure Checks

  • Blood and Urine Tests

  • Arthritis Assessments

  • X-Rays for Joint or Organ Health

Supporting Your Pet Through Their Golden Years

Routine care such as vaccinations, parasite prevention, and grooming remains essential for senior pets. However, their care needs evolve and differ from those of younger pets, requiring ongoing attention and support.

🥣 Nutritional Advice

Senior pets have different dietary needs due to slower metabolism and changes in muscle and organ function.
Diets that are easy to digest and nutritionally balanced can support long-term health. Your vet can recommend the best food to suit your pet’s stage of life.

🎾 Exercise & Mobility Regime

Staying active is still important for older pets! Regular, low-impact activity like short walks or gentle play helps maintain mobility and muscle strength without putting stress on joints. A personalised exercise plan can help keep them moving comfortably.

🔍 Monitoring Lumps & Bumps

Ageing pets are more likely to develop lumps, and while not all are dangerous, some can be serious. Keep an eye out for any changes and have them checked promptly. Early detection is key in managing potential cancers or other conditions.

🦷Dental Health

Dental issues are common in senior pets and can lead to pain or infection. Brushing, dental diets, and treats all help maintain oral health. If you notice bad breath, gum changes, or difficulty eating, it’s time for a dental check-up.

Pets on Regular Medication: Why 6-Monthly Check-Ups Are Essential

If your pet is on long-term medication—whether it’s for arthritis, heart disease, skin conditions, or another chronic issue—it’s important to know that regular health
checks are not just recommended, they’re required.

Under Australian veterinary law, pets on prescription medications must be examined by a vet at least every six months. This ensures your pet is still receiving
the correct dose, that the medication is working effectively, and that there are no harmful side effects developing.

These check-ups allow us to:
– Monitor your pet’s response to their medication.
– Adjust the dose if needed as your pet ages or their condition changes.
– Pick up any new or related health concerns.
– Renew prescriptions legally and safely.
Even if your pet seems stable, their condition, and how their body processes medication, can change over time.

A six monthly check helps keep their treatment plan safe, effective, and up to date.
